More About 3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms
My fabulous friend Misha gave me this podcast recommendation and I’m forever grateful to her for it. I got to chat with the lovely Rachel Nelson about her podcast three and 30 takeaways for moms. This podcast does an amazing job of helping moms by giving us three things we can actually do to make our motherhood journey better.
Rachel Nielson the Host of 3 in 30
Yes. So I’m Rachel. I live in Sun Valley, Idaho. Well, Haley, Idaho, which is right by Sun Valley. It’s a town in the mountains and I love it.
And I have two kids. Noah’s 10 and Sally is seven and I call them my miracle babies cuz Noah is adopted and Sally was conceived with IVF and I have a podcast, three and 30 takeaways for moms. That’s three takeaways in every 30 minute episode and I love doing it.
How 3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms Got Started
So I wanted to start three and 30 to help moms feel more hope in motherhood, which is what I needed at that time, honestly. And I was looking for podcasts that would have quick, actionable takeaways for moms and there weren’t, there wasn’t one that I could find, there were other motherhood podcasts, but they were long interviews that the takeaways in the gyms were kind of buried within these long hour long plus interviews.
And I just thought as a new mom, like with littles, I don’t have time to wade through all of this. I just wish they would just give me the tools so that I could feel more hope in this role. That feels really, really difficult to me. And when I couldn’t find that I thought, well, maybe I should create it.
And it really has become something that’s brought so much hope and fulfillment to my life, into my motherhood. And I hope is bringing that to other women who are listening.
What You Should Expect from 3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms
I want women to feel a sense of hope and that they can do this, that they can be the mom that they wanna be. And I really try to build in a sense of like, they get the tools that they need to be the mom that they wanna be.
But also that they get the confidence, the self-compassion the feeling of like, I’m not alone in this, you know, coming out of each episode that just makes them feel more equipped to face that day. And that week with their kids.
I think that’s the most important thing that a mom can do is develop compassion for herself and a kind inner voice, um, that will help in all areas of her motherhood. After she’s developed that for he. Which wasn’t easy for me and that, so that’s what I had to start with in myself. And once I developed it, everything got better in my life.
Totally. Isn’t that interesting that once you, I feel like once you have a calm, grounded center, everything else just seems to work itself out. Not exactly, but like at least start to work itself out.
The Vibe of 3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms
I would describe it as nonjudgmental, um, community like heart fueled advice and sisterhood almost.
I hope that’s the feeling that women get when they listen. I share a lot of stories for my own life mistakes I’ve made. The ways I’m trying to apply the advice of these experts I interview. And I just hope it has that, that vibe or that feeling of kind of like, you can sit with us. Like we’re all just doing our best as moms.
You’re a great mom. Just the way that you are. And here’s some tools that might make it even easier for you as a mom.
I feel like we’re all looking for community. I feel like even seeing moms that maybe don’t listen to your podcast, I see them as part of my community, like we’re all in this together.
Like, let’s help each other out.
Yeah. Like when we see a mom at the grocery store with her kid melting down, we smile at her, give her a wink, or if it’s appropriate, help her with that. Like, that’s what I want motherhood to be in our society. Not this judgey critical, you know, sense for one another, but this, like, you’ve got this sister and I’ve been there too, and I’m gonna.
Rachel’s Favorite Episode of 3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms
I have 240 episodes now and I love them all genuinely. There’s so many that have changed my life personally. Um, but the one that came to mind is a actually ties back to something we just talked about and it’s episode 12, how to stop being mean to. Mm. And definitely that is, that was one of the first times that I had ever gotten really raw and vulnerable on my show, cuz it was early episode 12. I talked about my experience going to counseling for an eating disorder and how I realized that it was my inner voice. That was the problem. The way that I was talking to myself was leading me to use food as a coping tool and that I needed to shift the voice inside to become my friend instead of my enemy.
And then that would shift everything else. So in that episode, I read a narrative that I wrote when I was in therapy, where I embodied my eating disorder as a character outside of myself. And I wrote out how she talked to me and, um, it’s just a very personal. Piece of writing. Um, but it was a good way for me to sort of test how open and honest I was gonna be with the community.
And it was so well received that it sort of opened the door for me to share more like that in the future, on my show. So it’s a really personally impactful episode for me. And I’ve heard from dozens of moms that say that it really shifted the way they talked to themselves as well.
3 in 30 Takeaways for Moms & Kids Listening
It is, um, I mean, it’s not intended for little years, like sure. It will just go above their head, but yes, it’s totally fine to listen to with your kids around.
