Introduction to Amy & Smooth Stones

I am a mom of six living kids and I have two angel babies and I am married and I am a stay-at-home mom, and I am also a life coach, and I help other moms who have been through the loss of a baby. Yeah, it’s a lot more common than people think until it happens to you and then you just, It’s everywhere.

So, I’ve been helping people ever since we lost our daughter. So she was still born at full term, so just a few days before she was due, she passed away and was born and I. I felt like, so of course I was devastating and I just. Was looking around and I kind of wanted to find out like what do I do now? Like how do I handle this? How do I deal with this? How do I move forward?

And I would see there’s so many amazing people that have been through so many really hard things. And I thought, what did they do? You know? And so that was kind of my quest as I grieved was kind of like reading all the books. You know, and those, I don’t even think it was nine years ago, so I don’t even know if podcasting was a thing.

But I would just like researching, researching, reading, learning and just doing the best to navigate. Like life after loss, my kids grieving, all of that. So I just, when I found coaching and I wanted to move forward with that, I was just like, I have to help other families who have been through this.

And I just felt like podcasting is such a, like, it’s weird cuz it’s really intimate, but even though I sit in my room by myself with a microphone  most of the time, But I was like, I just wanna be able to talk to these moms whose like hearts are broken, who need help and direction, and are doing the same thing I was doing, which is like looking for like, now what, what do I do and how do I get through this?

And also like still, you know, have, there’s so much more to life than just grief. And so just kinda giving them hope that they can, you know, find their way.

What to Expect from Smooth Stones

So the first thing I want people to understand is that they’re not alone. Because it is kind of still a taboo subject, like miscarriage still birth, like there’s so many types of loss.

And we don’t really talk about it. I want them to know that there’s somebody who understands and I think it’s really helpful to know like, Oh, I’m not crazy cuz I’m thinking that way or because I’m struggling with this. Or it’s just part of life after pregnancy loss. And then, I also really want it to be usable, practical.

It’s like, how do I do this? So many people are just, they wanna know how to navigate it, and so I want to give them those tools and give them direction and ideas and things that have worked for me. Like all the things that I’ve learned, I want to give it to them so they don’t have to learn it the hard way.

But they can hopefully benefit. My nine years of grieving and helping people through grief, which I did like in so many other ways before I started a coaching business. And I really want them to feel hopeful. Like I said, there’s just like, I want them to know that there is so much goodness out there and there’s so many things you can do and Yeah, just find that hope cuz there are days where you just, you’re looking anywhere for somebody to say like, this is gonna be okay and it’s okay to be sad.

That’s part of life and that’s part of grief. And it’s also okay to, you know, have dreams and things that you wanna do and, and you’re still a human being. So I think I want people to understand that like, you still have to navigate relationships and marriage and parenting and, and all of those things after loss. And so definitely, yeah, we kinda like, we touch on all of it.

The Vibe of Smooth Stones

So my vibe is definitely calming and soothing. People have told me that my voice is really soothing, which I think is kind of funny cuz when you start a podcast you’re always like, Oh my goodness. I sound, I don’t know, yeah, it’s interesting to listen back to yourself, but. Yeah, I just want people to feel calm and safe.

And like I said, also it’s positive, but not in like a fake good vibes only, you know? I talk about grief, like I’m pretty open, I will talk about all of it, all the parts but it’s still like an uplifting vibe I think.

Smooth Stones & Kid Ears

Yes, it is rated clean all the time. Even though, I mean, we do talk about grief and death and things, and I do have a couple episodes where we talked about intimacy after loss and things. So I usually will say, Hey, you know, we’re talking about sex today, so here’s the warning.

Amy’s Favorite Episodes

I thought of a few that I refer to people all the time. I’m like, Oh, you need to listen to this. This will be really helpful. Episode six is how many kids do you have?

Because, Once you lose a child, that little small talk question every time you get it and you get it and like your kids get it at school, you know, it’s just everywhere. Like how many kids do you have? And I’d have to say to anyone listening who hasn’t been through this, you can just say, Tell me about your family.

That is a little less difficult to answer, cuz you never know, you know? So, yeah, that one just breaks it down. How do you answer this question that used to be so easy and now it’s like, I don’t know what to say. Cuz if you mention your baby, it’s like, is that depressing if you don’t mention it, you just feel guilty after.

how to find yourself again after baby loss

Episode 26 is another good one, I actually interviewed my own children. So we’re a little bit farther out from our loss and I know a lot of people are wondering, you know, how is this gonna affect my children? And so I was able to, they were really brave and opened up and just explain kind of what it was like then, what it’s like now, how they’ve healed, what’s helped them. And so that was really good.

And then I have, I don’t interview a ton of people, It’s mostly me, but I have interviewed like Jennifer Finlays and Fife, Jody Moore who’s a great life coach. Shera Gill, who is an amazing organizer. And Jessica Zucker, who is, she started the hashtag, I had a miscarriage. She’s a psychologist and incredible. So I’ve had some really cool guests.
