One of my favorite ways to entertain my kids without using a screen is kid podcasts and one of my kids’ favorite podcasters is Mr. Jim. My kids were over the moon excited when they found out that I got to talk to Mr. Jim about his podcasts.
This is how Mr. Jim describes Spyology Squad: Packed with adventure every week, we call these kids stories “spyience-fiction”. In spyology squad, you’ll follow Jayden, Ava and Mr. Jim as they work to defeat Dr. Stinkybreath and his purple ninjas. Every week we’ll learn all about a new subject in science, have fun and save the world together!

More About Spyology Squad
The length of each episode is about 10 minutes. The series is ongoing with three new episodes available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
FPG’s Sponsor Bookshop.org
Before we learn more about the vibe of the show, we’re going to take a quick break to talk about bookshop.org. I love visiting local bookstores, but doing that with three littles in to would be a bit of a nightmare. So I’m really glad I can still support local bookstores, but stay home and buy my books online, at least for.
By using bookshop.org. bookshop.org is a great way for you to buy books online, but also support local bookstores. You can find a specific local bookstore that you would like to support, and they will receive the full profit off Your order, or your order will contribute to an earnings pool that will be evenly distributed among independent bookstores.
You can see some of my favorite books for me and for my kiddos by going to my affiliate link at bookshop.org/shop/fpg. I’ll also put a link in the show notes. Now we get to hear from Mr. Jim as he confirms my suspicions for why some of the characters in Biology Squad sound extra silly.
Introduction to Spyology Squad
My name is Mr. Jim. I live in South Carolina with my wife and three young boys. We love everything outdoors. Whether building sand castles, catching lizards, or going on hikes, that is, those are the things we love to do all the time nonstop. That’s fabulous.
How Spyology Squad Got Started
Yeah, so this is one of the, the shows that was birthed out of our kind of mothership podcast called Kids Short Stories where kids send in ideas of about them going on is some kind of adventure.
And then I write a story about that kid going on that adventure. There was just a lot of momentum and a lot of attention that kids, you know, they all wanted to be on the spy team and that was just a lot of submissions. There’s thousands of submissions. And probably 25% of them or more, maybe 50% are them on the spy team doing something that.
And so, it’s so funny. I like, I can remember recording this very first episode of Dr. Stinky Breath, who is our arch nemesis. I can remember I was in my wife’s closet. With my phone at the time recording this story. And someone had sent in, you know, they wanted to fight Dr. Stinky breath, who’s trying to take over the world, get rid of all the toothbrushes and toothpaste, and make the world stinky.
It’s like, that’s awesome. Okay, cool. And so I did that story. And then there was just like this, all these submissions about Dr. Sinky bread, Dr. Sinky Bread, Dr. Sinky Bread, and the Purple Ninjas. And, it just evolved into this like world. That it needed its own show. And so that’s how, Spyology Squad is the science division of our spy team.
That they are focused on making sure that Dr. Stinky breath does not make our world stinky. And so it’s a show where every week there’s three episodes that have a science leaning bent to them. So my undergrad was in biology and I love science. And I never thought of myself as a teacher but I feel a lot more like a, you know, kindergarten, first, second grade science teacher where we get to hit through like each week maybe.
Dr. Stinky breath. He’s trying to take over the world by getting rid of the light bulb and so he travels back in time to stop the light bulb from being invented in the first place. And, and so it’s biology squad’s job to save the light bulb. They go on this adventure and journey, or maybe it’s about gravity or maybe it’s about photosynthesis or like there’s, each week there’s a new science topic that biology squad takes on Dr. Stinky breath.
What to Expect from Spyology Squad
I want kids to just have fun with science. I think there’s a lot to learn in science and as educators, I know teachers are always trying to find new fun ways to connect with kids, to get them excited about something because an excited kid can actually learn and retain information really well. And so we’re kind of thinking of this through the lens of like, How could we build out a resource for teachers that they can use in the classroom or, you know, homeschool families to use at home or who have you or just normal, like, just, at home chilling, not even during school time, but to be able to learn some fun science stuff while being a part of this science or spy adventure.
The Vibe of Spyology Squad
It’s between our three shows. It’s the oldest leaning style of theirs, it’s a little more adventurous. There’s the, the cliff hanger moments are are a little more exciting.
Jim’s Favorite Character in Spyology Squad
So I really like Ava. So in our SP squad, there’s Mr. Jim, Ava, and Jayden. Those are the main crew that represents Spyology Squad. There’s a few guests that pop in here and there, but Ava, she just has so much perception and wisdom and she’s just so smart and she’s often leading the charge and figuring out the solutions. Jayden is a lot more, he’s a spontaneous, like firecracker and so he, he’s fun, but yes. They would be really fun characters.
Spyology Squad & Little Ears
Oh yeah, that is, that is exactly who we’re hoping. Well moms you can listen to SP Squad as well. But just know that we are targeting this content. We’re designing it for kids in that five to 10, five to 12 those ages, that is, that’s who we’re hoping that it resonates with. My kids are between five and eight, and so I feel like, you know, as a dad that I get to. I’m really in tune with that age. And so I feel like as they get older, my storytelling style kind of follows them a little bit. But yes, Spyology Squad is very fun and exciting for kids.
Spyology Squad Access Card
So, on the show, spyologysquad.com is the website where kids can get their own biology squad access card. So in the show we talk about access cards as every spy has a card. And they, that is how you get in and out of hq. So going to spyologysquad.com, that’s where you can get your free access card that we will send you in the mail. And I’m asked all the time, you know, is there a real hq?
And one day we are going to have live events and live experiences for kids to participate in. We’re, you know, starting to talk about a tour kind of thing one day. And so these biology squad access cards will get some bonus privileges at those live events for kids that have their access cards. So we’re gonna be critter protectors as well as members of the Spy team. Yes. My kids, this is a family affair over here of, you should see like there’s, there’s thousands of these access cards that people are signing up for and it’s. It’s me and my kids and my wife, and we’re looking at a lot of envelopes, Oh my goodness. And, and so we’re, we’re quite behind in getting all these access cards out, but we are. Don’t worry. We are working hard on getting them out.
