Introduction to John & Walk 2 Wealth
My name is John Mendez. I’m the host of the Walk 2 Wealth podcast, where I enlighten and empower young adults to build wealthy, abundant lives.
So I was never a born entrepreneur. I never was someone who talked about, you know, money finance or thing like that. Money was very tight. I grew up on the projects. My dad was absent.
My mom and I never had the best relationship. So my grandparents raised me. It was nine of us in a two bedroom. And so for me, money was something that I didn’t know anything about. And then I read Rich Dad, Poor Dad in November of 2020. And then my paradigm shifted. And then from there that I was in a sophomore year in college.
That winter break, I just dived it down in a rabbit hole of learning about personal finance. And from there, when I came back my spring semester of sophomore year, it’s like I had seen the light and I couldn’t look back, so I ended up leaving college. Fast forward a little bit around summer of 2021, me and one of the guys, was like “Why don’t we start a podcast?” And I was like, you know what? That’s a good idea. Long story short, he ended up going back to college. I was pursuing my real estate license at the time to become a realtor, so, and I already left school, so our schedules didn’t match up anymore. I procrastinated about four months and then I came up with the name Walk 2 Wealth and a whole meaning behind the name is, it’s for the 99% of us that aren’t overnight sensations. It’s a long walk to wealth and some may walk faster than others, but what good is sprinting to the finish line? If you pass out when you get to the finish line.
What to Expect from Walk 2 Wealth
So like for me, my main thing is helping people to notice the difference between wealth and riches. A lot of people, especially younger, they see the Lamborghini, they see the fast cars, they see the girls, they see the, you know, the watches, they see the clothes, they see the shoes. And it’s like the materialistic things definitely catch a lot of eyes and they turn a lot of necks and they get everyone’s attention.
But it’s like there’s more to life than just riches. And that’s where wealth comes in. And for me, wealth is about abundance in all your areas of life. So I want to help you learn how to become rich long term. I’m very fortunate to have grown up in the projects cuz I’ve seen the spectrum of wealth where I have people doing, you know, 25 years plus in jail.
And I’ve also seen people who have summer houses in the Hamptons and their entire house has like a, a movie theater in the basement, a sauna, a workout room like a whole like mini gym and freaking a whole yoga room just in the basement alone. Like, so I’ve seen what scarcity does and what abundance and affluence could be.
And so for me it’s just I wanted something where I could document the journey. A lot of people wait for until they become successful to start giving back. I wanted something where I could share my journey. In real time and also share my knowledge and the knowledge of the people I bring on while I’m still on the way there so I could hopefully inspire and educate other young people my age cuz I’m really just trying to target people my age.
I’m 21 and I’m trying to target people 18 to 22. So I’m still in my target age demographic. I pretty much am trying to target the people I went to high school with so they don’t have to go through all the BS that most people go through that live the traditional rat race life.
The Vibe of Walk 2 Wealth
It’s definitely very conversational, very relaxed, very almost. I, I try to not have a tool Q&A style.
I always tell the people when I interview them like, it’s just a conversation. I’m a genuinely curious person. I love to learn, so it makes it easier for me.
I’m literally coming up with thoughts on the fly as I, interview these experts. Like if they say one thing and it sparks an idea, I’ll run with it and go deeper on that. If it’s something that I think would be of value and interesting.

John’s Favorite Episodes
Two of my favorite episodes, one of my most recent ones that from the time we’re recording it, is with Christian Scott. I love that episode, and it’s called From Borrowing Money from Parents for the Mortgage to, Ferraris and Real Estate.
We were supposed to talk about real estate investing, but we just talked about for the most part, having an abundance mindset and an attitude of gratitude and just how giving more can help you get more in life and giving for the right reasons and very philanthropic, very, you know deep conversation. It was just a, a genuine conversation between two friends. I also happen to have known him from a real estate mastermind.
My second favorite episode is episode 34, with Vic Manzo. And my two big takeaways from his episode is the law of non sacrifice. When you choose what you love to do, you’re never sacrificing. Sacrifice is a scarcity mindset concept. When you operate out of abundance, you can have your cake and eat too. Right? And he goes deeper into some quantum stuff as well. So he was, those probably are hands down my top two conversations.
Walk 2 Wealth & Little Ears
So definitely put headphones for it because I know there’s like maybe two curse words in the entire thing, but I would hate for me to say that there isn’t any curse words and you listen to one random episode and there’s like one bleep in there that didn’t get bleep.
So for the most part, almost all of it is, curse word free. I don’t tell the guests not to curse. Most of ’em just choose not to. I personally don’t ever curse, so you’ll never hear it coming from my mouth. And I can stand on that, but I can’t speak from my guests. I know there’s a couple episodes where there’s some profanity in there, but I guess headphones just to play it safe.
But for the most part I’d call it PG-13.
What Would Andi Do With a Billion Dollars
I would probably make sure that people realized how awesome they were and like how awesome their bodies are, just the way they are. That’s something that I’ve had to work through as a woman, but I think that men go through it too.
Just remember that my body’s not perfect, but it’s awesome because it’s helping me live. And I think our culture has a lot of baggage around that. So helping everyone, especially little girls. I have two little girls, so helping little girls to feel empowered and that they’re awesome just the way they are.
What John Would Do With a Billion Dollars
I would probably spend a message of if this world was. If more people in this world were financially literate and shifted into mindset of abundance instead of scarcity, that this world would be a better place now, I would probably use the billion dollars to create the world’s greatest marketing scheme so I can get the message out to as many people as humanly possible with the rest of my money and make sure that everyone heard the message.
