Enjoy your Summer Break with These Fantastic Kid Podcasts

Once August rolls around, I feel ready for school to start for my kids, even though there are still a couple of weeks of summer break until my kids actually go back to school. I’m assuming I’m not the only parent that feels this way. Here’s some kid podcasts that can help you survive the last weeks of summer break before structure comes back into all of our lives.

Eleanor Amplified

The first kid podcast on the list for today is Eleanor Amplified. My family found this podcast earlier this summer and we were super late to the party. This podcast came out in 2016, but we don’t even care because we are obsessed.

Eleanor is a world famous radio reporter who foils devious plots and outwits crafty villains all in pursuit of the big story. My whole family is entertained by each episode, but quite honestly, Scott and I laugh more than the kids. It’s a series with several seasons. We just finished season one and we’re excited to start season two.

This show is made for kids that are about elementary school age and older, but my preschooler enjoyed it too. I recommend starting on the very first episode so that your family can get the most out of the story and no one gets confused.

Empowering Stories for Summer Break

The next kid podcast to help you survive the last weeks of summer is Bearily Bear Stories. If you have any kids who love princesses, or a good story, they will thoroughly enjoy this podcast. It’s a modern retelling of outdated fairytales to make them more empowering for the kids that listen. The podcast is full of characters who are smart and good at solving problems. There’s episodes retelling the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Three Goats Gruff, and many others.

This podcast is made for kids that are preschool and elementary school age. If you wanna get a feel for the show, you can listen to the episode I did on the Friendly Podcast Guide with Miral Sattar, the creator of the show, all about the reason she started the show, and some fun behind the scenes tidbits.

I’ll put the link to the episode and the show notes. One Barely Bear Stories episode I recommend listening to is called The Lonely Ice Queen. It’s a retelling of the same story Frozen, the Disney movie, is based on. I’ll put a link to that episode in the show notes too. My kiddos really enjoyed it.

Podcast Consultations

I’ve been able to talk to some amazing podcasters about their shows while doing interviews for the Friendly Podcast Guide. Along the way, I’ve learned so many tips and tricks on how to start a podcast from the hosts I’ve interviewed and from personal experience. I’ve talked to those hosts about what made their launch successful and what made it more difficult.

I for sure know what I would do differently if I could go back and launch my show again. Now I want to share my knowledge with you. I’m offering podcast consults and I have a couple of spots open in the next month. If you need help nailing down your podcast idea, figuring out your niche or have any other podcast questions, I would love to work with you to make your show’s launch the best it can be.

If you’re interested in working with me, fill out the intake form in the show notes. I can’t wait to make a podcast plan that is tailored to you and your podcast, and we’ll make your launch as smooth and successful as possible.

Otter Space

Otter Space is the next kid podcast on the list and this is a fun one with a whole cast of different people voicing the different characters.

I love it when a storytelling podcast uses a different voice for each character. It makes the story come alive in a way that is so fun. This podcast is about two mismatched sea otters in search of new paw buddies who must save Earth from an alien civilization that has outlawed all forms of playing.

If you know anything about sea otters, they’re incredibly playful, so mischief obviously ensues. This podcast is made for kids that are elementary school age up to tweens. When I talked to the creators of Otter Space on an episode of the Friendly Podcast Guide, they told me that a much wider range of kids and adults enjoy the show.

I’ll link that episode in the show notes if you wanna get a feel for the vibe of the show. This is another podcast that’s a series, so I recommend starting at the very beginning. This way your family gets to enjoy all the goodness, and y’all don’t miss any of the details.

Kid Short Stories for Summer Break Entertainment

The last kid podcast on my list for today is Kid Short Stories. This is one of the first kid podcasts our family ever found, and it’s still a favorite at our house. Each story is inspired by a kid’s idea that they have written in to the host, Mr. Jim, who makes their idea come to life in the form of a short story. There are episodes about unicorns, space adventures, candy covered basements, and so much more.

This show is made for elementary age kids as well, but my kiddos have been enjoying them since my oldest was four. Much to my children’s delight, I got to have Mr. Jim on the Friendly Podcast Guide to talk about Kids Short Stories. Let me just tell you, the origin story of this podcast is quite unique. You should definitely give my episode a listen. I’ll put a link to the episode in the show notes.

There are a lot of Kids Short Stories episodes, so if you look it up and get overwhelmed, I recommend listening to either Octopus in the Pool or the Mermaid’s Magic Rainbow Crystal. I’ll link both of those episodes in the show notes too.
