More About Wisdom with Trish

The show description is Wisdom with Trish is a podcast where I will discuss the process of leaving the worlds of diet culture behind to turn to God to find out from him how we should treat, feed and feel about our bodies. Learn how we can find refuge in following the word of wisdom, all while leaving the size of our bodies to him. The length of each episode is between 30 and 45 minutes long. The show is ongoing and new episodes are available on Thursdays.

FPG Partner Olive and June

Before we learn more about the vibe of the show, we are going to take a quick break to talk about Olive in June nail polish. I truly love having nail polish on it brings me so much joy, especially because I get to do it on my own time and I don’t have to get them done at a salon, which saves me time and money.

I use Olive and June’s mani system and my nail polish will stay on for a week with no chipping. It brings me so much joy every time I look at my nails with these fun colors, and I want you to have that joy too. You can get 20% off a mani or pedi system by using the affiliate link in the show notes.

Introduction to Trish & Wisdom with Trish

I’m Trish, I’m a mom to six kids. I’ve been married for a very long time. I’m a grandma and  I’m also a lifetime dieter. I’ve been dieting for 30 years of my life, probably 30 plus years, just always thinking my whole life that I’m supposed to be in a different body. And so, yeah, I basically have come to figure out some things about how I can live a healthy life and live in a bigger body and love the space I take up in the world.

And that is the work I do in the world today is, I help women love the space they take up in the world and even take really good care of that.

Why Trish Started Her Podcast

Well, I just really felt like I figured some stuff out. Like in the beginning I wasn’t coaching, I wasn’t doing anything. I didn’t offer courses. I just really had things to say. I really felt, I saw the world and I saw there were three different types of women in the world. I noticed there were women who really felt like they could diet, I call ’em the number ones on my podcast. I feel like they are really the women that can really manipulate their body to be the size they want.

And they tend to be okay with themselves because they tend to have some control over that to some degree. And then I feel like there were number three women in the world, and they’re a little bit more rare, but they’re the women who really like, they might not live in perfect bodies, but they’re really just okay with themselves. And diet culture hadn’t really crept into their world and really affected who they are, and they don’t really get their value from their body.

And then they’re number twos. Where I would, I really felt like, and I was a number two, where they just felt like this is the thing that I’ve tried to figure out my whole life and I just can’t figure it out.

And I put as much effort in as a one, but I don’t seem to be able to manipulate and change and make my body cooperate the way other people seem to. And I just keep searching for the next answer and I just can’t find it. So when I started really seeing the world, I really feel like women can be a little bit of all three, but usually you fall in one category at another.

And when you start thinking about your friends, you’re like, Oh yeah. She doesn’t really care about dieting and she’s always, you know, doing keto or whatever. You know, we can see that in the women in your world. You can start seeing where they kind of fall and I just felt like as a two, I had figured some things out and I wanted to tell the world what I had figured out.

What to Expect from Wisdom with Trish

I want women, like there’s this culture and it’s this culture of an American girl that we all experience. And it might be in other countries too, but I’m just an American, so I just know it from, as in the American experience, to be at war with our body.

Even thin bodies. There’s something wrong with their body they’re trying to fix. I would love for my women to get from my podcast to not just love the space that they take up in the world, not just love that, but also have some ownership of it. Kind of like this is me and I get to love me and all my flaws, and all my beauty and all my hot mess.

I get to be me, and that’s with makeup or without makeup and drop this idea that we have, that if we can just hit some holy grail of perfectness, then life is going to be better. And really all women need to do to be able to love who you are is just choose, to give yourself permission.

So I want my podcast to be the permission giver. You need to just say, screw it, I’m not gonna do one more diet. I’m gonna start doing what serves me. And maybe like even eating plants, maybe that serves me or maybe it doesn’t, I don’t know. But whatever, I get to decide what matters to me in this short life that we’re all granted.

The Vibe of Wisdom with Trish

I just get on the mic and I just talk and I just hope that it’s a little boost, I do a weekly podcast every week all year long, and I really want it to be like that little nugget that you get for the week that makes that feel like, okay. I’m okay. Nothing’s gone wrong here. My body’s okay. And kind of recenter yourself.

My podcast is usually about 30 minutes long. About as long as you go on a walk usually. I talk a lot about my life and how I’m navigating the world in my body and trying to make peace with it. I feel like it’s a journey that might take, It might take my whole lifetime, but I feel like I’ve come a lot further than I started and I have a lot more peace in this body than I’ve ever had before. And I’m just trying to like let you have the same.

Wisdom with Trish & Little Ears

I have sworn a couple times on the podcast. I’m not gonna lie about that, but usually it’s when I’m talking about diet, culture, but I’ve never used the F word or anything like that. But, there’s been a couple times I’ve sworn, but it’s very kid friendly. You can plug me in, in your car and you’ll be fine.

Trish’s Favorite Episode

I really loved this last episode that I did. I always loved my latest episode. Sure. But my last episode I talked about, my Oprah aha moment, and I share about how as a young mom, you know, my oldest is 27, so I’ve been a mom for a while, but when I was a young mom, Oprah was kind of my mentor and I share with you how like when she was on a diet, I was on a diet.

Like whatever Oprah would do, I would do. Not just my diet mentor, but you know, she just had, she really blessed me and helped me embrace motherhood and that being my calling and it just really helped me as a young mom. But I also dieted with her whatever diet she was doing, I was doing, and she kind of came my diet buddy and I talk on that episode about my aha moment when I saw at one point on Facebook, her show had been off the air, but I talk about my moment when I read on Facebook that she’s purchased Weight Watchers.

And I think to myself here Oprah is, and she says, I’ve purchased Weight Watchers. This is my company now, and I think this is the answer for me. And I have this moment where I’m like, Oprah, you’re like 65 years old and you’re like the, You’re Oprah. Like, you’ve blessed so many people’s lives and you’re, you’re like a bazillionaire and really you’re 65 and you’re still trying to figure this out.

Am I really gonna be trying to figure this out when I’m 65? Like it felt painful and I had the thought, What if Oprah would’ve loved the space she took up in the world from her day one when she started her show? Like what kind of permission would that have given other women to be the size they are. Like how powerful could that have been?

Someone on Instagram, Lauren Busby. I’ll have to link her Instagram cause I really, really love her. But one thing that she says sometimes is that your body is the least interesting thing about you. And I really love that because it’s true, right? What you say, how you feel, what you put out into the world, that’s what’s exciting.

That’s what’s fun. That’s what’s cool about Oprah, not her body. Yeah. But no one cares about her body.
