Celebrate Black History Month by Listening to these 10 Great Podcasts
Some of my favorite podcasts are by black creators and I wanted to compile a list of my top 10 favorite podcasts by black creators as we all celebrate Black History Month.
This year I have 5 different categories of podcasts, so I know that you will be able to find at least one (if not more…) from this list to try out as you celebrate Black History Month.
Business
Hello Seven Podcast
- The Hello Seven Podcast is hosted by Rachel Rodgers: a wife, mama, and CEO of an 8-figure business. Her mission is to help every woman she meets become a millionaire. Each episode is full of nuggets of knowledge you can use as you start or grow your business.
- Start with Episode 104: But What if I Fail? where Rachel gives you a plan so you can address this question when it inevitably comes up and you find yourself wondering if the risk of failure is even worth the effort.
Side Hustle Pro
- The Side Hustle Pro podcast spotlights bold black women entrepreneurs who have scaled from side hustle to profitable business. Join Chief Side Hustler turned full-time entrepreneur Nicaila Matthews Okome in her more than 300 episodes as she drops some knowledge on you to start that side hustle you’ve been dreaming and talking about for a long time.
- Start with Episode 235: No More Excuses, It’s Time to Act on Your Side Hustle Idea where Nicaila gives us three tips, on how to take action and get things done.
Motherhood

- The Balanced Working Mama Podcast shows us it is absolutely possible to balance work, motherhood, and wellness. Host Dr. Amber Thornton inspires mamas to find the balance and wellness of motherhood.
- Start with the episode Dr. Amber did on The Friendly Podcast Guide where she talks about her reason for starting her podcast and how she describes the vibe of her show.
Moms Actually
- Moms Actually is a talk show that shares relatable voices to champion the experiences of womanhood, sisterhood and motherhood through candid and transparent discussions.
- Start with their first episode called Not All Moms Wear Capes where they discuss identity after motherhood.
Personal Development
Routine and Things
- Routine and Things is hosted by Ashley Brown, momma of 2, author, and self proclaimed routine queen. She strongly believes in the power routines have to shift your life in the most amazing ways.
- Start with the episode Ashley did on The Friendly Podcast Guide where she brings her awesome energy and helps us all understand the wonders of a good routine.
Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations
- Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations is Oprah’s personal selection of her interviews with thought-leaders, best-selling authors, spiritual luminaries, as well as health and wellness experts. All designed to light you up, guide you through life’s big questions and help bring you one step closer to your best self.
- Start with Episode 348: Answering Life’s Big Questions where Oprah gives you a taste of what her podcast is like through a series of snippets of her conversations with various thought-leaders and experts.
Anti-Racism
First Name Basis
- As parents, we all want to teach our kids to be inclusive, but how? Join host Jasmine Bradshaw on her show First Name Basis each week as she gives you the tools and practical strategies that you need to talk to your children about race, religion, and culture.
- Start with Episode 1: Talking to Young Kids About Race where Jasmine unpacks three strategies that you can use to talk to your young children about race.
Code Switch
- Code Switch explores how race affects every part of society — from politics and pop culture to history, food and everything in between. This podcast makes all of us part of the conversation — because we’re all part of the story.
- If you like books as much as I do, then I would recommend listening to their Battle of the Books episode where they talk about the books they think were best to read during the pandemic. I got a lot of good book recommendations from this episode and their other episodes like it.
Pop Culture
Still Processing
- In Still Processing hosts Wesley Morris and J Wortham chat about culture in the broadest sense. That means television, film, books, music — but also the culture of work, dating, the internet and how those all fit together.
- Start with the episode called Keanu Reeves Will Be Your Mirror where Wesley Morris wants to get to the bottom of Keanu Reeves — and to understand “why we get so much out of a movie star who appears to give us so little.”
The Read
- Join bloggers Kid Fury and Crissle for their weekly podcast The Read, covering hip-hop and pop culture’s most trying stars. Throwing shade and spilling tea with a flippant and humorous attitude, no star is safe from Fury and Crissle unless their name is Beyoncé. (Or Blue Ivy.)
- Start with the episode called Best of 2022 where the hosts reminisce about all of hilarity from the previous year.
I hope you enjoy celebrating Black History Month through listening to these podcasts and let me know in the comments what podcasts by black creators I need to add to the list.
