Help Your Child Love Science through Kid Podcasts

Help Your Child Love Science through Kid Podcasts

Kid podcasts have made my entire motherhood journey much smoother. I use kid podcasts all the time in a variety of situations and they always make my life easier. I have an entire guide to kid podcasts that you can get at the link in the show notes, but today I wanted to share some kid podcasts that are specifically about making science cool and fun that will help you kids love science.

Spyology Squad

This kid podcast is about kids who are on the spy team and are trying to keep the world safe from Dr. Stinkybreath. In each episode Dr. Stinkybreath tries to take over the world and Eva and Jaden, with the help of Mr. Jim, use science to save the world. Right now this is the most requested kid podcast at my house. If we’re running errands I know that 9 out of 10 times I’ll be listening to Spyology Squad.

Each episode is about 10 minutes long and I would recommend starting with the Friendly Podcast Guide episode where the host, Mr. Jim, talks all about Spyology Squad, how it came to be, the general vibe of the show, and some fun behind the scenes on how the episodes are made.

Brains On!

In this podcast, every week a different kid co-host joins host Molly Bloom as they discover answers to all sorts of questions, ranging from why do feet stink to how do underwater volcanoes work? If you want to help your kids to love science and experience real kids figuring out answers to real questions this is the podcast for you.

Each episode is about 30 minutes long and you should start with the episode called: Do Scientists have superpowers? Where co-hosts Molly and Aaliyah help Joy Dolo figure out her life with assistance from several scientists they meet along the way. This episode gives you a good feel for the flow of the podcast and the rapport between the different characters on the show.

My Kids Podcast Guide

Before I tell you about more kid podcasts about science we’re going to take a quick break to talk about my guide to kid podcasts. One of my favorite parenting tools is kid podcasts. I use them when I’m running errands with the kiddos to keep them from complaining the whole time. Or when I need a mom break, I’ll just grab an easy activity like coloring pages or a sensory bin, turn on a kid podcast and the kids will be entertained for at least half an hour. I know that kid podcasts would help you in your life too, which is why I made a guide to kid podcasts.

There are eight different categories ranging from science to mindfulness to audio drama with at least three podcasts in each category, there are 27 different podcasts in total on the guide. I’ve listened to each of the podcasts on this guide, so I can attest to them being kid-friendly. And I put my email at the bottom of the guide so that if you try a couple with your kids and none of them are a good fit, you can email me and I will personally help you find a kid podcast that works for your littles and you. Okay back to the science kid podcasts.

Nature Narratives

The episodes for this podcast are short, only about 5 minutes long and are a great introduction to many science topics that are found in nature, like the water cycle and the aurora borealis and help your kids love science in nature. The host is also a music composer, so he puts together epic musical scores for each episode, to make the whole experience cinematic.

To get a feel for this podcast you should start with the Friendly Podcast Guide episode where Jonathan Byram, the host, talks about his inspiration for starting his podcast and what you can expect from each episode.

Wow in the World

This engaging podcast is beautifully produced with sound effects and fun hosts who are super engaging as they talk about the latest news in science, technology and innovations. Some of the recent episodes have been about things like lizards, false memory and robots.

Each episode is between 20 and 30 minutes long and I would recommend starting with the episode called Tooth Ache Tooth Cake. It’s silly, but through the silliness you learn all about the TRPC5 Protein and you get a taste of all of the sound effects, voices and other aspects of production that makes this show great.
